Halevey to quit Mossad's presidency very soon
Israel, Local, 7/27/2002

Israeli political sources said that Aphraem Halevey, the chairman of the Israeli intelligence, the Mossad, is about to quit his post to become the chairman of the national security council which belongs to the government.

Halevey assumed the chairmanship of the Mossad in 1998 following a series of setbacks which caused great embarrassment for the Mossad and defamed it. Halevey will assume the post of the chairman of the national security council in succession of Gen. Ozi Dayan who will retire in September.

The national security council in Israel is a specialized consulting commission in diplomatic and security affairs. The Israeli political sources said that Halevey's quitting of that post was prescheduled as part of implementing certain reforms in the lines of the Israeli intelligence, and that this shift does not mean there is any dispute between him and the government.
