75 percent of Palestinians live under poverty

Director of the Palestinian Health Development Information and Policy Institute Mustafa Barghouthi said on Thursday that 75% of the Palestinians live under poverty line at an average of two dollars per day.

A report prepared by the Palestinian trade and commerce bureau said the Palestinian daily losses as a result of the siege and the curfew imposed on the Palestinian territories are estimated at $ 5 million daily.

Barghouthi explained that in the first 15th months of the Palestinian Intifada, the losses inflected on the Palestinians estimated at $ 305 million, while losses resulted from destroying and stealing of Palestinians properties by the Israeli forces reached $ 361 million during the two months of the Israeli invasion of the Palestinian territories, March and April.

Barghouthi indicated the deteriorated health conditions as a result of the deteriorating economic conditions. He said that the Palestinians, for the first time suffer actual malnutrition.

Also, a report Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics says that there was a drop of 50% in income from the period of the start of Al-Aqsa Intifada till February 2002. It said that 81 % of the Palestinian families need outside assistance.

However, the report of the emergency committee at the Palestinian agriculture bureau estimated losses, linked to damages resulting from the Israeli siege occupation in livestock and fishery area, since the beginning of the Intifada until June 30, at $ 703,609, 710.
