Blair says no decision on attacking Iraq
Iraq-UK, Politics, 7/26/2002
British prime minister Tony Blair told the press in London yesterday that he does not want to make predictions about a likely military act against Iraq.
The British army chief of staff Michael Bussi was exempted from his post following disputes between him and the British government on issues relating to the policy and the strategy especially in regard to attacking Iraq.
A spokesman for the British defense ministry said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Tony Blair had actually issued a decision providing for exempting Bussi from his post on the ground of his rejection to British plans in taking part with the US in striking Iraq.
The spokesman added that Blair appointed Gen. Michael Walker instead of Bussi.
