Israel assassinates three Palestinians; US weapon's use under review
Palestine-Israel, Military, 7/26/2002

As the UN Security Council continued on Thursday its consultations concerning the Middle East for the second running day, the US called on its citizens in Israel on the need to be cautious and this came following the Israeli carnage in Gaza last Monday.

Following the attack by Israel, the US Department of State said that it is constantly reviewing the use of American made military equipment. The US is the main supplier of Israel's weapons. The US, when it sells or gives its military equipment and weapons to a country, places conditions on the use of these equipment.

On Thursday at dawn, the Israeli forces assassinated three Palestinians in Sera village near Nablus and later the Israeli forces prevented the Red Cross from transporting the bodies of the three killed Palestinians and set fire in the area where they corpses were laid in order to hide the crime.

The Israeli forces also demolished the houses of the three Palestinians in Arab Bourin village.

For its part, al-Aqsa group and al-Awda ( return) groups, which are both close to the Fatah movement, claimed responsibility over killing the Israeli rabbi Elimyar Shaber and wounding another settler in Aley Zahhaf settlement to the north of the West Bank.

The two movements stressed in two separate statements that this operation came as a reaction to the "Israeli criminal acts against the Palestinian people" and stressed the right of the Palestinian resistance and chase "the Israeli war criminals."

The Israeli forces, meantime, arrested more than 100 Palestinians in a campaign that targeted the villages and cities of Toulkarem, Qalqilya, Hebron and Ramullah, Bethlehem, Bourvin and Arab Bourin, and Wadi al-Beidan in Nablus. The detained Palestinians included Ahmad al-Masri, one of the leaders of the Hamas movement in Ramullah, and Ahmad Hazza, the Fatah movement official in Qalqilya, and Haiham Jabar, one of the military wing leaders of the Islamic Jihad movement.

More than 15 Palestinians were wounded in the clashes with the Israeli forces in various areas of the West Bank and Gaza.

On Thursday at dawn, the Israeli forces incurred into Sheikh Ajleen area near Natsareim settlement to the south of Gaza and opened its intensive fire at the Palestinian residential areas in Rafah and Khan Younis in Gaza.

Palestinian sources said the Israeli forces broke into one quarter in Khan Younis and arrested the Palestinian youth Ibrahim al-Astaal ( 32 year old) after inspecting his house.
