Norway to remove landmines from Lebanon; Israel continues shelling

The Israeli occupation forces on Thursday from its positions in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa farms bombarded with 8 shells the Jabal al-Saddanah area and the surrounding of Burket al-Naqqar at the hills adjoining Kafer Shouba and Shebaa.

A Lebanese security source said the Israeli forces bombarded on Wednesday evening Jabal al-Saddanah area a the northern outskirts of Kafer Shouba town by three artillery shells, at a time when the Israeli trucks were fortifying Rweisat al-Alam position which adjoins the occupied Shebaa farms.

On the other hand, Norway expressed readiness to provide the Lebanese army with a landmine remover machine, to help in operations to dismantle thousands of landmines implanted by the Israeli army in southern Lebanon and the western Bekaa before Israel's pull out in 2000.

Norway's ambassador to Lebanon said on Thursday, following his meeting with the Lebanese defense minister Khalil al-Hrawi, that this landmine remover is of will be offered as a donation to the Lebanese army to accelerate the process of removing the landmines.

The ambassador indicated that the manufacturing company will train Lebanese army members on how to use it. Necessary spare parts will be also provided, the ambassador said.
