Calls to release July Revolution documents in Egypt
Egypt, Politics, 7/26/2002
In the final session of a seminar under the title "50th anniversary of July 23 revolution," Arab and Egyptian intellectuals called on the Egyptian government sources to release the revolution's documents and make them available for researchers and specialists.
Complaining about the government not making historic documents public, the chairman of the central administration of the Egyptian documentation house, Saber Arab, in the seminar which lasted for three days and concluded on Wednesday, said that "all rules regulating the work process in the 'Documentation House' dating from from 1954 until 1993, are shameful, because they do not oblige the country's establishments to deliver its documents to the said house, under the pretext that most of the documents are top secrecy."
Mahmoud al-Maraghi, former chief editor of "al-Arabi" magazine, mouthpiece of the Naserite Arab party in Egypt, called for discussing the new documentation law, calling on the Egyptian parliament for approval, and to salvage the remaining documents in the hands of commissions and ministries that abstain from handing these documents to the Egyptian documentation house.
