Egypt extends custody for 24 Islamists, 101 Muslim brothers members

The sate supreme security court in Cairo on Wednesday decided to arrest 24 extremist Islamists from the two banned (Islamic group) and "al-Takfir, al-Hijra" group, for 15 days for investigations, according to an Egyptian judiciary source.

The source added that half of the detainees who belong to the (Islamic group) were arrested at the end of January in Ambaba people's area in Cairo under charges of "having publications calling for toppling the regime and being members in an organization established in contradiction to the rules of the constitutions."

The (Islamic group), which is the largest armed group in Egypt in addition to al "Jihad" group had given up violence in 1998, and thereby ending a wave of violence started in 1992 and resulted in killing 1300 persons.

The source also explained that the others who belong to "al-Takfir, al-Hijra" were arrested during the same period of time in al-Ismaeleyah city and al-Jiza province under the charges of "provoking against the ruler, the society and toppling the regime." Last Monday the state security decided to arrest 15 persons of "al-Takfir, al-Hijra" for 15 days for investigations under the same charges.

Meantime, the Egyptian state security attorney decided to extend the detention of 101 members of the (Muslim brothers) in Alexandria for investigations for 15 days. The sources added that those persons were arrested since one month during the "acts of riots in the complementary People's Assembly election" in al-Ramel section in the city.
