Oman celebrated 32nd national day
Oman, Local, 7/25/2002
Every year on July 23rd, Oman celebrates "al-Nahda" day which is considered in Oman's modern history as a turning point towards a promising future led by Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
In the early steps of al-Nahda march in Oman, efforts focused on building the Omani citizen and ensuring basic services in the fields of health, education, road construction, airports, water resources, electricity service, and improving living conditions. All these have been achieved in the course of five year plans with the aim to transform Oman into a strong modern state that combines together the flavors of both the East and the West.
In the area of housing, "al-Nahda" in Oman provided for each and every Omani citizen a fully equipped modern house that meets the needs of the Omani family. Al-Nahda also provided loans and health care to families. Oman has been recognized as a country which has made great development in advancing the health of its citizens in a short period of time, ranking Oman at the top of the world countries in this regard.
In the field of industry, the efforts of Oman has been directed towards building the large- scale industrial base, especially in the oil and gas sectors, which contribute and helped in protecting the Omani national economy and developing it. Oil is Oman's main national income. It constitutes 83% of the total revenues of the country and 95% of the country's source of hard currency.
According to these revenues, Oman has drawn an spending financial policy to achieve three integrated objectives: establishing integrated industries, agricultural activities, and exploiting the great fishery resources, on the 1600 Km long coasts of Oman.
Since Sultan Qaboos of Oman assumed power on July 23, 1970, Oman's foreign relations have been characterized by principles of coexistence among peoples, promoting good relations with its neighbors, and at the international level.
At the Arab level, Oman has been working to strengthen its relations with the Arab states. It joined the Gulf Cooperation Council in May 1981, and through the role it played within it, it built bridges of amity and fraternity with other Arab states. The same bridges were initiated by Oman through the Arab League and the Arab summits in consolidation of the common interests of the Arab march of integration.
