UN Security Council asked to enforce adopted resolutions on Israel
Regional-Palestine, Politics, 7/25/2002

An official source a the UN said that the UN Security Council will discuss, at the request of the Arab group, the situation in the region.

A well-informed source said that the Arab Group, which represents all the Arab states at the UN, prepared a draft, that condemns the recent attack committed by the Israeli occupation forces last Monday in Gaza against the Palestinians.

The Saudi representative to the UN, Fawzi Bin Abdul Majeed Shobokshi -- Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary, whose country currently presides over the Arab Group, had asked in a message addressed to the UN Security Council, and circulated at the UN, to convene an emergency meeting for the Security Council in order to discuss the "very grave and deteriorated conditions in the Palestinian territories."

In June, the ambassador speaking before the Security Council had describe the Palestinian situation saying "It is often stated that the Palestinian question is difficult and complicated, but it is in fact very clear. It is a question of colonization, the usurpation of the rights of the Palestinian people, the seizure of its territory and expansion onto Arab territory. It is a matter of the just demand of the Palestinian people to gain freedom, independence and legitimate rights, as all other peoples liberated from colonialism have done. The world has been following the suffering of the Palestinian people and the unjust and coercive practices that violate religious values and contravene international norms and moral principles."

The Saudi ambassador explained that the Arab Group asks the UN Security Council to discuss immediate and necessary measures to put an end to the current drastic situation, and to implement, and to enforce previous resolutions adopted by the Security Council.
