Tunisia: Ben Ali issues an amnesty for detainees

Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali yesterday decided to issue a pardon for several prisoners on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the foundation of the republic of Tunisia which falls today (Thursday).
The pardoning decision which did not indicate the number of persons that would be effected by the pardon, was announced following a meeting held between Ben Ali with the ministers of the interior and justice, respectively. The pardoning decision includes amnesty for several prisoners and reducing imprisonment sentences of others.
