Syria - Jordan economic talks to strengthening cooperation

The Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abul Ragheb has stressed the need of consolidating economic cooperation relations between Syria and Jordan. He said he is looking forward for further developed relations between the two states and each of Lebanon and Egypt so as to achieve economic integration among these Arab states.

During his meeting on Tuesday in Amman with the Syrian Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade Ghassan al- Refai, in the presence of the Jordanian minister of trade and industry Salah Eddin al-Bashir and the Syrian ambassador in Amman Abdul Fattah Amoura, Abul Ragheb talked about joint regional projects between Jordan and Syria especially the electricity grid and gas projects. He underlined the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two states in the fields of tourism, transport, trade and industry.

Abul Ragheb also stressed the importance of the two states' collective efforts and bilateral cooperation in the Arab and European contexts, noting the Syrian negotiations with the European Union to sign the association agreement already signed between Jordan and the EU.

Al-Refai, for his part, stressed Syria's desire to build deeper economic relations with Jordan. He stressed the clear directives given by President Bashar al-Assad to this effect in eliminating obstacles hindering the march of trade and economic cooperation between the two states.

The Syrian minister also met on Tuesday with the Jordan's minister of the economy who stressed Jordan's care to develop good relations with Syria.

The two ministers discussed means of facilitating border issues between the two states and drawing tourism promotion programs covering Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.

On Tuesday morning, the general assembly of the Syrian- Jordanian company for joint free zones held its first meeting since its inception under the chairmanship of ministers al-Refai and al-Bashir.

The two sides discussed the company's agenda and its achievements since its inception in boosting economic relations between the two countries.
