Continued acts of violence in the Palestinian territories

The Israeli forces on Monday arrested 12 Palestinians in the West Bank, six of them in Nablus, 4 in Deir al-Addoum in Toulkarem and one from al-Misbah village to the west of Ramullah and one from Selat al-Daher, while three Palestinians were wounded in Khan Younis by the Israeli tanks and a fourth Palestinian was also wounded in Toulkarem.

The Palestinians retaliated by wounding two Israeli soldiers in an attack launched by resistance men against a position for the Israeli army near Ghoush Katieve settlement in Gaza. Two Palestinians were killed in this attack. However, the Islamic Jihad movement said that one of the attackers was killed while the other were able to flee.

The Palestinian resistance men threw an explosive and opened several mortars shells at Israeli military positions near Beit Hanoun in the West Bank as well as near Rafah in Gaza. The Palestinians also detonated an explosive and opened fire when an Israeli vehicle was running near Hawara village in Nablus district and detonated three explosives when another vehicle was running near Jenin. They also attacked several military positions near Neve Dekalim, Kfar Daroum and Kadid and Trenit position near the Egyptian borders.

Meantime, the Israeli foreign minister Shimon Peres stressed the Israeli army will not pull out from the Palestinian cities and village except after the recession of the number of warnings on likely occurrence of operations against Israel. He called on the Palestinian Authority to fully control the groups which carry out these operations.

Israel's minister of Justice Meir Sheetrit expressed support for the idea of expelling families of the Palestinians who carry out "operations" against Israel. He also criticized the position of the European Union which rejects the idea of expulsion.
