Egypt-Libya, Politics, 7/22/2002
Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak yesterday received LibyaÕs Leader of the Revolution, Colonel Muammar al Qathafi, who arrived in Cairo on a three-day visit to participate in Egypt's celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the July 1952 Revolution.
The two leaders held a session of talks shortly after the Libyan leader's arrival, covering the current developments in the troubled Middle East area and ways of activating bilateral relations.
Egypt's ambassador to Libya Hani Khallaf told reporters on arrival from Tripoli to attend the talks that negotiations between the two leaders would cover the critical situation in the troubled area generally.
He said Mubarak would brief the Libyan leader on the outcome of his recent Middle East efforts, while the latter would familiarize Mubarak with African developments, especially the birth of the African Union.
Mubarak yesterday wrapped up meetings with the leaders of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates in Geneva, where they declared support for the Palestinians.
