Pakistan Holds Talks with Morocco, Ukraine for Joint Ventures in Fertilizers

Pakistan government is in contact with Morocco and Ukraine for the initiation of joint ventures in the field of fertilizer production, reported Friday the Pakistani news agency APP. "We are trying to explore every avenue for boosting fertilizer production in the country to meet domestic needs," chairman of the National Fertilizer Corporation (NFC), Maj Gen Muhammad Mohsin, told a meeting of general managers in Lahore.

He said that the NFC was also seriously thinking of importing fertilizer from different countries. Earlier, managing director of the National Fertilizer Marketing Limited (NFML), Chaudhary Shaukat Hayat said that the company marketed 1.7 million tons of chemical fertilizers during the last fiscal year.

Shaukat Hayat said the production of urea, nitro-phos and single super phosphate scored an increase during the year 2001-02 compared to the previous year.

However, the production of Calcium Ammonium Nitrate dipped by 45,000 tons, he said adding that the marketing of Kissan Zinc Sulphate and Home Garden Fertilizer has started.
