Huda Abdul Nasser quits her post as head of al-Ahram center
Egypt, Politics, 7/20/2002
Huda Abdul Nasser, the elder daughter of the late Egyptian President Jamal Abdul Nasser has resigned from the post to supervise the Egyptian revolution studies unit, which belongs to the strategic and political studies center at al-Ahram newspaper in protest of titles of a press report.
The resignation came after the report was published by the Egyptian daily al-Ahram including a summary for one of the minutes of meetings of the sessions of the central committee of the Arab socialist party. Minutes of meetings documented and published by Huda Abdul Nasser. The published session had a provoking title which is "after accepting Rogers' initiative Abdul Nasser announces he is not ready to stand against America." The session included the minutes of meeting of June 22, 1970 session in which Abdul Nasser discloses justifications behind his acceptance of the US Rogers' initiative to settle the situation between Egypt and Israel following the war of attrition launched by the Egyptian army after the June war, 1967. In this session Abdul Nasser also denied any secret or declared agreement for joint defense between Egypt and the former Soviet Union.
In her resignation letter, Huda wrote "I regret the dishonest ways used with me upon publishing the secret minutes of meetings of the sessions of the central committee of the Arab socialist party meetings on al-Ahram issue no. June 18, 2002 when statements of the late President Abdul Nasser were played with and changed deliberately, as I have checked the final copy of the article myself as well as the titles. But the change and amendment was made deliberately after I have left the newspaper."
