Yemen; Five persons killed in Tribal clashes
Yemen, Local, 7/20/2002
Five Yemenis were killed and other 6 wounded in an ambush planted by an armed tribal group on Thursday evening against another tribe with whom they are fighting over owning a "Quarry" in the area to the east of al-Zammar district, situated to the south of Sanaa.
The incident took place in al-Abaser area between a group of al-Absari family and al-Sabbari as a result of differences on a mountainous area used for "cutting stones" that are sold for building purposes in most of the Yemeni cities.
A source at the local authority asked to be anonymous in Zammar confirmed the incident and said that the "police immediately arrived at the site of the incident and were able to stop the clashes which erupted between the two sides following the clashes and arrested five persons from al-Absari family ho started the launching of fire.
Worthy mentioning that several Yemeni areas have witnessed the eruption of several confrontations between families and tribes and resulted in killing scores and wounding hundreds, because of conflicts over water wells and land ownership.
