Baghdad: Vienna's talks achieved progress
Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 7/19/2002
The Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri on Thursday announced that the third round of dialogue between Iraq and the UN which was held in Vienna "achieved progress" and was "useful" in bringing view points together between his country and the UN towards finding out a comprehensive solution for the Iraqi issue. He stressed that contacts will continue with the UN general secretariat in order to reach "the objective of the targeted dialogue."
On the other hand, the Iraqi national council (parliament) sent messages to heads of the Arab parliaments and Sheikh councils calling for convening an emergency session for the Arab parliamentary union in Baghdad or Damascus in order to discuss the American threats against Baghdad.
Meantime, Kuwait's minister of defense Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Hamad al-Sabah said that his country will not support launching a military act against Iraq led by Washington unless it is approved by the international community.
