US rejects transfer of Lockerbie prisoner to Tunisia or Egypt
Libya-USA, Politics, 7/18/2002
The US has refused the possibility of transferring the convict Abdul Basit al-Miqrahi, who is sentenced to life- long imprisonment in the Lockerbie case to Egypt or Tunisia to carry out his imprisonment term instead of Scotland.
In a statement to press, the spokesman for the US state department Richard Boucher said that Washington was not asked about the offer proposed by former President of South Africa Nelson Mandella to Egypt and Tunisia to receive al-Miqrahi and that the US finds no reason to follow up it.
On June 10, Mandella in Glasko called for transferring al-Miqrahi to another country and he stressed later that Egypt and Tunisia approved to receive him.
