Milliyet: Turkey's conditions for accepting a strike against Iraq
Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 7/18/2002
The Turkish daily Milliyet said Turkey has put four conditions in case Iraq is attacked.
The report said Turkey's conditions are that: it will not to accept the foundation of a Kurdish state in northern Iraq; it will have to be compensated for economic losses inflicted as a result of the expected operation; that the Iraqi people approve of the new regime and to give Karkouk and al-Mousel to the Kurds.
The paper quoted diplomatic sources as saying on Wednesday that the Turkish prime minister Polent Acewit has opened the road before a likely operation (against Iraq), noting that the US has welcomed the change in his position and described it as flexible and encouraging.
