London's conference elects a military council for the Iraqi opposition

Some 70 Iraqi separatist former army officer concluded their conference in London on Sunday by electing a military council representing them. This was made in the framework of the contacts they are making with the USA to topple the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
In conclusion of their conference, the separatists Iraqi officers called on Washington to work for toppling Saddam Hussein without attempting "to replace Saddam Hussein by another strong man."
Tawfiq al-Yasiri was appointed as a chairman of the military council which was elected by the parties rallied under the banner of the Iraqi national conference. The council also included among its members lt. Gen. Najib al-Salehi, former commander of the Republic's guards and Saad al-Obeidi who was the chief of the "psychological war department" before he had split in 1986.
Sources of the conference said that the council includes "reputable figures whose hands were not spoiled by blood will work to topple Saddam through calling on other army officers in the Iraqi army to split."
Meantime, al-Salehi announced that Washington has to declare openly that its operations "only targets Saddam Hussein and not the Iraqi army or people." Al-Salehi said that he expects the collapse of the Iraqi army immediately if the US will attack.
