Al-Assad reviews developments with Iranian, French officials

President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday in Damascus received the chief of the Judiciary Authority in Iran Ayatullah Sayyed Mahmoud Hashimi Shahroudi and members of the accompanying delegation.

Talks dealt with relations of friendship and cooperation between Syria and Iran. The two sides exchanged views on Judiciary expertise.

Earlier in the day, President al-Assad received the chief and members of the French- Lebanese friendship society who are "holders of the merits of honor."

They are ambassador Omar Zeidan, France's general Inspector Brigadier Rimond Germanous; businessman Yanik Gilo; the chief of the French Veterans Association Nouel Mourati, the association advisor for Arab states Samara Samara and the director of its Paris office Mayan Shqeir.

President al-Assad underlined the key role played by non- governmental organization and the activities they carry out, referring to the cultural and scientific role France plays in the region.

Al-Assad commended activities carried out by the Society and called for maintaining further understanding of the M.E. region and its culture in terms of sustaining a dialogue.

The president al-Assad also received the Lebanese deputy prime minister Issam Fares. The president also received in Damascus Lebanon's member of parliament Michael al-Daher. Discussions dealt with issues of mutual concern for Syria and Lebanon.
