Morocco-Afghanistan, Politics, 7/13/2002
Visiting Afghan foreign minister, Abdullah Abdullah, on Thursday held separate meetings with several members of the Moroccan cabinet.
Abdullah, who was received on the same day by King Mohammed VI to whom he handed a message from Afghan president Hamid Kharazai, met minister of higher education, scientific research and executives training, Najib Zerouali, minister of Habus (Islamic endowments) and Islamic affairs, Abdelkbir Alaoui M'Daghri, and minister of employment, vocational training, social development and solidarity, Abbas El Fassi.
The Moroccan officials expressed the government's readiness to cooperate with Afghanistan, contribute expertise and implement programs of bilateral cooperation.
On his part, the head of the Afghan diplomacy praised Morocco's leading role on the regional and international scenes, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.
Meantime, Afghan foreign minister, Abdullah Abdullah, currently on a visit to Morocco, on Thursday told reporters he handed to King Mohammed VI a message from Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, and the official document in which his country announces it withdraws its recognition of the so-called SADR republic.
The head of the Afghan diplomacy said it was the communist government of Afghanistan, which does not represent the Afghan people, that recognized this entity.
"We have come with a written statement that was made public in Afghanistan and in which we withdraw our recognition" (of the self-proclaimed republic)," he stressed arguing that withdrawing this recognition was a sovereign decision that is part of the respect of peoples' right to self-determination.
