British peace envoy in Khartoum
Sudan-UK, Politics, 7/13/2002
A high ranking Sudanese official said that the British special envoy for Sudan Allan Ghoulti had arrived in Khartoum to hold talks on the attempts made to halt the war which has been ongoing for 19 years.
The Sudanese presidential advisor for peace affairs Ghazi Salah Eddine Intabi said that Ghouli who arrived on Sunday evening does not carry certain initiatives or proposals. He added that the visit of the British envoy aims at "following up on efforts to bring view points closer between the Sudanese government and the rebel movement in line with the British initiatives for pushing forward the peace process."
Ghoulti will be meeting with several Sudanese officials before he will head for Nairobi where officials at the Sudanese government and southern Sudan rebels started on June 17 peace talks for five weeks.
