Afghanistan withdraws recognition from so-called Sahrawi republic

Afghanistan has withdrawn recognition from the so-called Sahrawi republic (SADR).
The announcement came in a release issued this Thursday by the Afghan foreign ministry.
The release says, "keeping in mind all aspects of the evolving situation in the Maghreb region and the framework accord currently proposed, it has been decided to withdraw recognition from the SADR with immediate effect."
The release states further that "Afghanistan continues to keep in touch with developments existing with the countries concerned," and that a copy of the present release is to be sent to the United Nations Secretary General.
