Al-Shara reviews with Tareq Aziz regional conditions, the Israeli aggression

The Syrian Forein Minister Farouk al-Shara on Wednesday in Damascus received the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister And Foreign Minister Tareq Aziz.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Suleiman Haddad, foreign ministry officials and the chairman of the Iraqi interests office in Damascus Rifaat al-Ani.

Discussions dealt with developments concerning regional and international conditions especially in the Arab region as a result of the continued Israeli attacks against the Palestinians in the occupied territories.

Talks also dealt with bilateral relations.

Al-Shara expressed thanks to Iraq over the humanitarian aids provided to Syria following the collapse of Zayzoun dam despite the sufferings of the Iraqi people as a result of the sanctions imposed on Iraq.

In a statement to the press following his meeting with al-Shara, Aziz described the meeting with al-Shara as friendly during which view points were exchanged on matters of mutual concern.

Aziz added that the two states hold almost identical positions towards the main Arab issues and those on the international arena.

Replying to a question, Aziz said that Iraq has implemented UN Security Council resolutions concerned especially UN resolution 687. He denied the existence of any substantial difference between Iraq and the UN concerning UN resolutions. Aziz also rejected any foreign intervention in the internal affairs of Iraq or any aggression targeting Iraq's lands and people. He stressed Iraq's honoring of all UN reslutions issued by the UN Security Council.
