Al-Assad talks with UN chief peace meeting

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Monday discussed with the UN chief Kofi Annan means of reviving the ME peace process, while the Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara accused Israel of placing obstacles before the peace in the region and the Syrian Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Mustafa Tlass on Tuesday voiced Syria's support for the choices of the Palestinians and their right to choose their leadership.
The Syrian daily Teshreen which issued the news of the telephone call between al-Assad and Annan said the president discussed with Annan issues listed on the agenda of the meeting of the four- member committee on peace (US, Russia, Europe and the UN) due to be held in New York on July 15 in order to crystallize basic steps for reviving the peace process.
On Tuesday, the Syian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara said that Israel places obstacles before a new serious opportunity to achieve peace in the Middle East region.
SANA said that during the Tuesday's weekly session of the Syrian Cabinet al-Shara said "the crimes exposed against the Palestinians by the Israeli forces from besiegement, destruction of houses and placing of obstacles, all aim at eliminating any serious opportunity to achieve peace in the region."
