Palestine-Israel, Military, 7/10/2002
While the Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon threatened to continue his war against the Palestinians, the Israeli forces on Tuesday asassinated Mu'ammar al-Daraghma, one of the Islamic Jihad leaders near Yamoun village in Jenin.
Another Palestinian was killed at the entrance of Jerusalem, and two wounded during incursion operation by the Israeli army in "Blok Rafah area." News reports said that al-Daraghma ( 30 year old) was ambushed by the Israelis while he was on his way to Toubas town.
The Israeli forces arrrested 17 Palestinians in breaking in operations of Bethlehem, Nur Shams camp, Toulkarem and the villages of Beit Awa, Taffouh, Soufin and al-Tel, while the Israeli forces gathered the people of Ramullah and investigated them.
In Rafah, the Israeli forces demolished four buildings upon breaking into the quarters of the city and several citizens were wounded in clashes, while the bulldozers were destroying several farms under the protection of the Israeli tanks.
The Israeli minister of agriculture Shalom Simchon admitted oppressive detention acts against the Palestinians in the context of the collective punishment policy. He said that the Israeli police chase the Palestinian workers and prevent them from working in the terrritories of 1948.
Meantime, Sharon threatened to continue the war against the Palestinian people in order to eliminate what he called terrorism. Sharon said in a celebration held on the occasion of Moshe Yaloun assuming his post as a chief of staff of the Israeli army that "Peace should be based first on Israel's military force."
A source at Sharon's court ( Divan) said the prime minister listened in a meeting that included the foreign minister Peres and the Defence Minister Benyamin Ben Eliezer views of the two ministers concerning steps to be taken by the Israeli government in the coming phase on the ground of US President George Bush's vision concerning peace in the region.
