Morocco and Spain in permanent contact to overcome crisis, Spanish official
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 7/9/2002

Spanish secretary of state for external relations, Miguel Nadal, said Morocco holds a rank of priority in the Spanish diplomacy agenda and the two countries are in permanent contact to overcome the present crisis.

The Spanish official told Moroccan daily Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki the two countries respect each other's stances, stressing that Madrid respects Morocco's stance regarding the Sahara and is aware that this issue is important for the region stability.

Nadal said his country supports "a negotiated settlement" of the Sahara issue and is awaiting the outcome of the UN Security Council's consultation.

Last October, Morocco recalled its ambassador to Madrid for consultation, citing a series of Spanish attitudes and stands concerning Morocco.
