Egypt foils attempt to smuggle weapons to Gaza

The Egyptian border police on Sunday foiled an attempt made by four Palestinians to smuggle tens of automatic guns, ammunition and thousands of "RBJ" amunition from the Egyptian coast from the city of Rafah to the Palestine side of it, in an area situated to the south of "Canada camp," 150 meters from the borders.

An Egyptian security official who wanted to be anonymous said the "clashes took place between an Egyptian border patrol and four sneaking Palestinians, who were carrying four automatic machine guns, two of them were able to escape." And they were surprised by the police in demolished houses in "Canada's camp for the Palestinian refugees." The official did not disclose the place where they resorted to. He continued that inspection at the site where the clashes took place found 42,000 bullets, 84 automatic machine guns and two RBJ shells."

Recently, the Egyptian authorities arrested several Palestinians who were trying to sneak to Gaza and smuggle certain weapons. In June the Egyptian police said that there is a tunnel which was used to smuggle weapons to Gaza. It is the second tunnel discovered by the Egyptian authorities.

The Israeli army said that it had discovered during the two last months at least 7 tunnels for smuggling.
