Algeria, Local, 7/9/2002

An armed group on Sunday killed 6 persons including four youngsters in Harbil village near al-Medya village to the north of the Algerian capital, Algiers, according to witnesses from the areas.

The sources explained that the victims of this new crime are two men and four children aging between 10- 15 year old, knifed by gunmen while they were grazing their sheep near the woods in that mountainous area.

The sources continued that the killers were wearing municipal guards uniform and a military costumes.

However, the armed Islamic group is very active in this region. The group rejects the national reconciliation policy pursued by the Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika. Since the beginning of this month July at least 63 persons were killed in Algeria.
