Persons responsible for Zayzoun dam disaster brought before court

The first investigation judge at the economic security court in Syria received the file of persons who are accused of being the reason behind the collapse of Zayzoun dam in Hama province in Syria. Those persons will be brought before the economic security court.

The Syrian Arab news Agency ( SANA) said the judge will start investigations with those persons in preparations to bring them before the economic security court." SANA added that "the number of accused persons is 26 and that warrant of arrest were issued against those persons and they were jailed in Adra prison (near Damascus) and have among them the former minister of irrigation and several officials at the ministry of irrigation, several directors general and technicians at companies which laid the study and implemented Zayzoun dam project." In the same context, the minister of irrigation in Syria Ahmad Ridwan Martini said that rehabilitation of Zayzoun's dam requires more than two years during where sides concerned will pay due compensations for the owners of the damaged lands.

Members of the technical committee which studies the situation of the dam said that it has found out the major reasons behind the collapse, noting that mistakes were made in design, implementation, investment and follow up. A mater which accelerated the collapse.

On the other hand, the Syrian local daily ( al-Fidaa ) issued in Hama said that the wife of the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad visited the site of the burst dam two days ago and met with the affected families, and listened to them. She was accompanied by a delegation representing the Syrian Fund for Rural Areas Development (FARDOUS).
