King Mohammed congratulates Algerian president on independence day
Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 7/6/2002

Morocco's King Mohammed VI sent Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika a message of congratulations on the occasion of his country's Independence Day.

The message recalls "the phase of the heroic struggle waged by the brotherly Algerian people for their liberation and recovery of their national sovereignty and territorial integrity," a phase that was marked, he said, by "firm backing and solidarity between our two brotherly peoples."

King Mohammed VI expressed hope that "this shared historical heritage be a leverage to promote cooperation, communication and complementarity in a bid to build up the union of our Arab Maghreb on firm bases and make of it a strong grouping likely to serve the interests of our peoples in a world where there is no room for weak entities."
