Maher: Syria, Egypt expect timetable and mechanism for Bush's vision

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher on Friday in conclusion of his visit to Damascus stressed that there is a Syrian- Egyptian agreement on maintaining an Arab move and the need of have a timetable and mechanisms to implement the vision of the US President George Bush concerning the Palestinian- Israeli settlement.
After his return back to Cairo, Maher said there is unanimous view between Syria and Egypt on the need of maintaining a move at the Arab and international level so as to eliminate the grave situation resulted from the Israeli practices and the need of uniting Arab efforts within the framework of the Arab option concerning just and comprehensive peace and the principles implied in the Arab initiative approved by the Beirut's Arab summit.
Maher said he discussed with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad Arab conditions and the opportunities to maintain peace.
Before leaving Damascus, Maher described his meeting with the Syrian president as fruitful and deep and that he reviewed with al-Assad his evaluation to the current position and the means to support the Arab position. In statements to MENA Maher indicated that Mubarak's message to al-Assad carried the results of contacts and talks Egypt had made during the recent phase and an evaluation to the Egyptian position and the need for effort to support the Arab stand.
The Egyptian minister said he felt during his meeting with al-Assad that there is a common agreement between the Syrian and Egyptian presidents on the need to exert effort in order to eliminate the current position inflected by the Israeli practices. Maher said that al-Assad asked him to convey a message to President Mubarak stressing the joint desire to work for serving the joint Arab higher interests agreed by the two presidents.
He explained "we agree on the need that the speech of the American President and the American role should tackle important issues for the Arabs like the Israeli withdrawal; the establishment of the Palestinian state and halting of settlements." He continued " we are all agreed that these issues are linked to a timetable and a mechanism for implementation. This is the position declared by President Mubarak and this is the essence of the stand I learnt from ( the Syrian foreign minister) Farouk al-Shara and this is what was discussed with the Syrian President."
