Moroccan basketball federation denounces Arab union's decision to freeze its membership
Regional-Morocco, Sports, 7/4/2002
Chairman of the Moroccan Royal Basketball Federation (FRMBB), Noureddine Benabdenbi, denounced here Tuesday the decision by the chairman of the Arab Basketball Union to freeze the membership of some federations, including the Moroccan FRMBB.
The FRMBB chairman who took part in the Arab union general assembly held against a backdrop of a crisis resulting from the withdrawal of some members, told MAP that the Arab union chairman has breached the law when he denied to some members the voting right. He further argued that this decision will negatively impact on the practice of this very popular sport in the Arab world.
He explained that the crisis started at the opening of the meeting when the Arab union chairmanship notified to five member federations (Morocco, Jordan, Yemen, Bahrain and Oman) that they are not entitled to take part in the assembly debates under the pretext that they did not pay their contributions to the Union budget.
In a solidarity move, eleven other delegations and the representative of the Arab sports union withdrew from the proceedings.
