Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has discussed with the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Walter H. Kansteiner, III bilateral relations between the two countries and the current peace negotiations between the Sudanese government and the rebel movement and the humanitarian aids for Southern Sudan.

In a statement following the meeting on Tuesday evening, the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael said that view points between the two sides regarding debated issues revealed that differences in positions are not great and that the opportunity is ripe to establish peace in Sudan and normalize bilateral relations.

For his part, the American official said he sees in the horizon the end of the war taking place in Sudan, stressing that each of the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and the leader of the rebel movement John Garang discuss means of reaching a peace agreement.

The American official said that President al-Bashir offered him immediately an immediate approval to open 18 new centers for relief in the areas affected in the southern parts of the country in the framework of the program "life line " operation.

During his one day for Khartoum which lasted just for one day, the American official conveyed American proposals concerning peace in Sudan to be debated by Washington at the current table of negotiations in Nairobi through IGAD.
