Israel continues detention, breaking in acts against Palestinians, unemployment rising
Palestine-Israel, Military, 7/3/2002

The Israeli military breaking in campaign continued in the cities and villages of the West Bank and Gaza, coupled with acts of arrest which targeted scores of Palestinians.

In the West Bank, some 35 Israeli tanks stormed al-Zababda village to the south of Jenin and arrested 30 Palestinians and other villages in Hebron district were exposed to similar operations during which the Israeli forces inspected several houses and arrested more Palestinians.

As Israeli forces escorted by tanks broke into Bur'om village and the city of Qalqilya where a vast detention campaign was launched, the Israeli forces broke into several centers for the Palestinian police in Khan Younis and arrested six members of the Palestinian civil guards.

Meantime, the Palestinian researcher at the Palestinian studies institute Mustafa Barghouthi stressed the deterioration of economic conditions in the Palestinian territories because of the continued Israeli destruction of the Palestinian infrastructure and establishments.

In a statement to Monte Carlo radio on Tuesday, Barghouthi stressed that poverty rate totaled 72% with an unemployment rate that exceeds 63%. He added that even those who work can not be afforded because the Palestinian establishments they work for have been destroyed by the Israeli forces in their continued aggressions against the Palestinians.
