Moroccan NGO asks Basque government to inquire about fate of missing basque in polisario jails

The Association of the survivors of the Polisario jails (ASOCAPO) has asked the president of the Basque regional government, Juan Jose Ibarretxe, to conduct moves with the polisario separatists to know the fate of a Basque who has been reported missing in the polisario jails since the eighties.

The president of the Basque regional government started on Sunday a three-day visit to the Tindouf camps, stronghold of the Polisario in south-western Algeria.

ASOCAPO said in a release it has a list of 200 persons reported missing in the polisario jails, including 9 foreigners.

The Basque man Jose Antonio Rodreges, alias Bahia El Legionario, is mentioned in the list, ASOCAPO said, recalling that Antonio Rodreges and his Portuguese inmate Manuel Augusto Guardo Paulos, had been reported missing in the jails of the polisario.

The Polisario is an Algerian-backed guerilla movement claiming the independence of the Moroccan Sahara, that was formerly under Spanish rule and that was retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid accords.
