Tunisia, Politics, 7/2/2002

"Lawyer Radhia Nasraoui begins an unlimited hunger strike Tunisian lawyer Radhia Nasraoui, an untiring activist in favour of human rights and a member of the Assembly of the World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), today began an unlimited hunger strike," OMTC reported last week.

"Ms. Nasraoui is demanding the release of her husband, Hamma Hammami, who was sentenced to three years and two months' detention for his political opinions and she is also protesting against the harassment that she, her husband and her children have suffered" OMTC said.

OMTC said "Ms. Nasraoui has not been granted permission to see her husband -- in her capacity as his lawyer -- since early April, despite the fact that her husband lodged an appeal to the court of cassation following his sentencing on 30 March 2002."
