Two international organizations protest against sentencing al-Yahyawi
Tunisia, Politics, 7/1/2002

The international federation of human rights and the anti- torture world organization have protested against sentencing Zuheir al-Yahwai, the founder of an opposition news bulletin for the regime of the Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali on the Internet.

In a joint statement, the two organizations said that the accusations addressed against al-Yahyawi aim only at punishing him for the freedom of expression, noting that the recent violations of the freedom of expression would be certainly harmful to the world summit on the media due to be held in Tunis in 2005.

Worthy mentioning that al-Yahyawi, the founder of the satirical opposition news bulletin "Tunisian" on the internet was sentenced last month for two years and four months imprisonment over two cases relate to his activities on the Internet.
