Syria, Politics, 7/1/2002

The state security court in Syria on Saturday held its before final trial session of Walid al-Bunni, who has been jailed since one year under the charges "of provoking armed unrest and the attempt to change the regime by means of force."

SANA said that after reading statements of the witnesses, the defense commission asked for a time to introduce the defense and it was then decided to file the case for audition at the condition that the defense will be presented during the audition period.

The main accusations addressed to al-Bunni was that which was behind his direct arrest in that: "the opposition forces should throw away the dress of peaceful struggle because the regime only understands the language of force and confrontation and we are ready for the confrontation, regardless to results before we will be targeted individually... we ask all to help in that because the security departments are the sides working for destroying every and each liberation movement aiming at abrogating the role of these departments ( security) which had sucked our blood, through killing, and corruption and an evidence on that is the fleets of cars and the luxury life they enjoy and the people are hungry.. This confrontation will continue even if it leads to a civil war."
