Morocco, Sudan raise joint commission level
Sudan-Morocco, Politics, 6/28/2002
Morocco and Sudan decided to raise the level of their joint commission, which will convene alternately in Rabat and Khartoum, under the chairmanship of the two states' foreign ministers.
The decision is part of an agreement signed in Khartoum Tuesday between Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, and Sudanese peer, Mustafa Osman Ismail.
The decision, Benaissa said, will give a new impetus to bilateral ties, political consultations and economic and commercial cooperation.
The Moroccan FM lauded Sudan's position as to Morocco's territorial integrity and reiterated his country's support to Sudan's sovereignty over all of its territories.
The Sudanese minister of external relations underscored the importance of the ties binding the two Arab, African and Islamic countries, and voiced hope that they be fostered further, especially after the raising of the joint commission's level.
The Moroccan-Sudanese joint commission, so far chaired by the two states' trade ministers, had not convened for a long time, which delayed the enforcement of several cooperation accords and projects in different sectors.
During his stay in Khartoum, the Moroccan foreign minister also took part in the 29th session of the foreign ministers council of the Organization of Islamic Conference held in Khartoum June 25-26.
