Syrian- Saudi joint committee to meet on July 2, 3 in Jeddah

The Syrian- Saudi joint committee will hold its 10th session in Jeddah on July 2 and 3 under the chairmanship of the Syrian Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara and the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal.

In a statement, the Syrian charge de affairs in Riyadh Mahmoud Abdul Karim said the committee will discuss political coordination and economic, trade and investment cooperation, means of eliminating all obstacles before the flow of goods and services between the two states as well as issued of mutual concern at all economic, trade, transport, communications, culture, education, agriculture, irrigation, health and tourism.

Meetings of the joint committee will be preceded by a preparatory meeting to be held on June 29 and to last for three days under the chairmanship of the Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Suleiman Haddad and the Saudi foreign ministry Secretary for Economic Affairs Youssef al-Sadoun with the presence of representatives for various ministries in the two states.

The Syrian- Saudi joint committee held its 9th session in Damascus in February 2000 and an agreement on founding a free trade area between Syria, and Saudi Arabia was signed. Ratified documents to this effect were exchanged in last January.
