OIC ministerial meeting supports Palestinian president; ignores Bush's speech

In conclusion of its deliberations on Thursday in Khartoum, the foreign ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference OIC expressed their support for the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat and the minister did not refer to the speech of the US President George Bush on the Middle East in their final statement which was issued after three days of meetings.
The statement stressed the support of the whole of the Islamic nation to the Palestinians under the leadership of Arafat in order to restore back the rights according to international legitimacy resolutions.
The statement called for halting the Israeli aggression and ensuring international protection for the Palestinians, halting the settlement and resuming the negotiations according to the UN Security Council resolutions, the land for peace formula and maintaining a just solution for the issue of the refugees. The conference issued special resolutions concerning the question of Jerusalem, Palestine and the Arab - Israeli conflict. These resolutions, in particular, stated a call on the UN Security Council to shoulder its responsibility and to interfere immediately to halt the Israeli aggression, preventing the Israeli government from continuing its aggressive schemes aiming at undermining the Palestinian authority.
The chairman of the PLO political department Farouk al- Qaddoumi said that the conference decided to give the Arab and Islamic states the opportunity to inquire about the American stand and therefore the conference gave no mention to Bush's speech.
The conference adopted the Arab initiative adopted by Saudi Arabia at the Beirut recent Arab summit. The conference also stressed on all members of the OIC the need to revitalize the policy of boycotting Israel.
The conference commended the steadfastness of the Lebanese people and government and militant struggle of Syria in confrontation of the Israeli occupation of the Golan.
It also stressed the need of honoring the security of Kuwait and called on Iraq on the need to take steps showing its peaceful intention towards Kuwait. It called for the suspension of the illegal acts against Iraq, conducted as a violation to the UN Security Council and renewed its call to lift the sanctions imposed on Libya and to release the Libyan Abdul Basit al-Miqrahi.
The OIC conference also voiced support for the UN proposal to convene an international conference for fighting terrorism and to form a committee representing governmental experts in order to follow up the implementation of documents and resolutions adopted by the OIC in order to convene an international conference for fighting terrorism and also to define the word terrorism.
The conference also condemned all forms of international terrorism and illegitimate acts.
The conference stressed solidarity with Sudan in confrontation of enemy schemes and renewed its commitment to support all peace efforts in Sudan aiming at preserving its unity, territorial integrity and defending it.
