Morocco extends electors' rolls revision deadline
Morocco, Politics, 6/19/2002
The Moroccan interior ministry announced that it will be extending the deadline for the electoral lists revision which concerns persons who have reached 20 years of age after 1996 and people who have moved from the constituency in which they voted in 1996.
The ministry says between last May 28 and June 16, first deadline for the revision, a total of 1,439,399 registration applications were submitted, marking a considerable increase compared to previous operations.
The registration applications will be processed by administrative commissions which started meeting on June 17.
After this series of meetings, the provisional rectified rolls, comprising new registrations, transfer applications and amendments brought by the said commissions will be posted in the local administrative offices and communal departments for citizens to consult them.
Morocco will be holding legislative elections next September to renew the 325 members of the House of Representatives (lower chamber of the parliament).
