Unifying dollar exchange rate in Syria
Syria, Economics, 6/19/2002

In a decision taken on Tuesday, the Syrian government unified the three exchange rates of the US dollar in the country, according to what is announced in the neighboring states. The decision was taken in a step which stressed that there will be no negative impact on the life of citizens.

SANA said that the Syrian cabinet approved "a draft law on amending customs fees rates" in a step aimed at unifying exchange rates of the US dollar in the area of pricing imported stuffs according to prices adopted by neighboring countries estimated at 46.5 Syrian pounds for each one dollar.

This rate is basically adopted at the income and spending accounts at the state's general budget. The government says that this unification will have no negative impact on increasing living costs nor will it affect the life of citizens.
