Iraq-Turkey, Politics, 6/17/2002

Officials at the Turkish foreign trade consulate in Ankara said that 300 Turkish businessmen will pay a visit to Iraq that coincides with the meetings of the Turkish- Iraqi joint economic committee which will be held on June 29th in Baghdad.

The Iraqi commercial attache in Turkey Imad al-Aref stressed the need of developing bilateral trade relations, noting that the Iraqi businessmen will brief the federation of the Turkish businessmen and industrialists on the bids Iraq will announce. A matter which will lead to increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, noting that Turkish companies can make use of the free trade areas in al-Mawsel and al-Basra.

Worthy mentioning that the volume of the Turkish exports to Iraq reached in 2001 USD 709.6 million and the Turkish companies in the course of the sanctions imposed on Iraq signed more than 800 contracts with Baghdad at a value of USD 1.5 billion.
