UN, Sudan agree on aid delivery
Sudan, Politics, 6/14/2002
According to the controversial agreement between them by the end of May, the Sudanese government has green lighted the UN to move without restrictions to allow relief aid at 41 positions at al-Wahda and north Baher al-Gazelle provinces.
Moreover, the Sudanese government approved additional sites at al-Wahda province as an emergency program to transport the relief stuffs. By these reciprocated agreements, the UN and the Sudanese government have closed a file of a difference which had almost halted the humanitarian activities carried out by the UN organization at the war areas in Southern Sudan. During the two coming weeks the negotiations will move to a new forum and a delegation from the UN and the southern Sudanese rebel movement will be meeting in Geneva to discuss the possibility of delivering the relief stuffs through the "contact lines" between the government and the rebels.
The humanitarian aid commissioner Sullaf Eddine Saleh said that the additional program approved by the UN and Khartoum will start officially on June 21.
