Egypt, France sign two agreements in communications

France and Egypt signed on Monday two cooperation agreements in the communications and the information technology (IT) fields, according to a statement by the communications ministry.
The two agreements include cooperation between the Egyptian communications ministry and telecom Egypt on one hand and a French company on the other hand.
The agreements aim at transferring the French technology to the Egyptian market through setting up a number of regional centers for software development and upgrading the third generation of mobile phones during the coming five years with a cost of 128 million euro.
The two agreements come as part of the ministry's policy aiming at luring foreign investments, increasing the exportation of the communications services and creating job opportunities for young graduates.
The first agreement includes the French company commitment to take part in developing the communications and information technology industry in Egypt during the coming five years through setting up a number of regional centers for software development.
Under the agreement, the French company will set up a regional center for integrated projects with a total cost of 67.1 million Euros to back the company's activities in the Middle East and African region.
The second agreement includes upgrading the communications network in telecom Egypt in a way that can allow adding 1.5 million telephone lines in ten Egyptian governorates.
The statement said the two agreements would help create about 2000 job opportunities and train 2310 Egyptian workers in the communications sector.
Communications Minister Ahmed Nazif and French ambassador in Cairo Francois Dopffer attended the signing of the two agreements.
