Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki: Parties seeking to ruin Morocco-Spain ties are wrong, spanish socialist party
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 6/11/2002
"If there are forces seeking to ruin the Morocco-Spain ties, they are wrong," secretary general of the Spanish Labor Socialist Party (PSOE), Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, said in an interview with Moroccan "Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki" daily.
"If such forces exist, they are committing a serious mistake because the interest of Spain and Morocco lies in the normalization and strengthening of their ties, because such is their fate," said Zapatero, who attended the meeting of the International Socialist (IS), held recently in Casablanca.
For the two countries to fulfill their goals, they need tolerance and co-existence, he said, adding that these forces are acting against the European Union's will to set up new ties with Morocco and the Maghreban states.
Concerning immigration, Zapatero said Europe should set up a "permanent institution to work in cooperation with Morocco and other immigration source countries, in order to organize the immigrants' flow."
The PSOE secretary general said "he follows with great optimism progress Morocco made during the past few years," voicing faith that the "Moroccan elections of September will be a quality jump towards a better future."
