Morocco, Ethiopia sign cooperation agreements

Morocco and Ethiopia signed in Rabat on Friday two cooperation agreements instituting regular consultations between the two African countries' foreign ministries and a joint ministerial commission.
The first agreement provides for cooperation between the two countries' foreign ministries and regular consultation on the situation in the African continent and various regional and international issues.
The second agreements sets up a joint ministerial commission, headed by the two foreign ministers, which will hold an ordinary session every other year, in Morocco and Ethiopia alternately.
The agreements were initialed by Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohammed Benaissa, and visiting Ethiopian peer, Seyoum Mesfin.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Ethiopian official said his country wants Morocco, to recover its place in the Organization of African Unity (OAU). "We rely on the wisdom of the African leaders to settle this issue," he said.
Morocco also announced that it will grant to four Ethiopian students scholarships to study in Tangiers International Tourism Institute (ISITT).
Seyoum Mesfin had earlier met Moroccan prime minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, minister of economy, finance, privatization and tourism, Fathallah Oulaalou, and Speaker of the House of Representatives (parliament lower chamber), Abdelouahed Radi.
Morocco, which canceled Africa's poorest countries' debts, is projecting to sign with Addis Ababa an agreement on investment protection and avoidance of double taxation and an accord on cooperation in tourism.
